Federal Police officers arrested Francisco Navarrete Serna, considered the local chief of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel in the municipality of de Tierra Blanca, Veracruz.
According to the authorities, the detainee is investigated for drug-related crimes, kidnapping, and homicides.
“There were previous indications of the links between Navarrete Serna in criminal activities, like the detention of a killer hired by organized crime to kill him, as well as violent actions against representatives of mass media," reported the Federal Police.
According to the reports, based in information from the local police, a group of the national Gendarmerie began a surveillance operation in the area presumably used by the suspect to meet with his associates to coordinate criminal activities.
"At the early hours of this Sunday, the federal officers identified two trucks parked with three armored civilians inside, who tried to escape using their weapons against the officers. But they were subjugated in a quick action, without the need to shoot even once," expressed the report.
Other two people were also arrested and military-grade weapons and communications equipment were also seized.
