Tequila Honor LLC, the company under investigation by Mexico's Attorney General's Office (PGR) due to the indications of a possible commercial relation between its owner, Kate del Castillo, and Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, registered three trademarks and additional brands: Reflexión, Redención y Afilado.
The trademarks were registered before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) by Xavier García Méndez Balderrama, the same lawyer that registered Honor del Castillo, the tequila that the star of “The Queen of the South” planned to produce and sell in partnership with Feliciano Vivanco y Asociados, from Arandas, Jalisco.
The three trademarks were are also registered in the United States, according to official records. The paperwork was done by García Méndez Balderrama at the request of René Valdez, intermediary between the actress and the Mexican tequila entrepreneurs.
At least two images of the trademarks (Afilado and Redención) were sent by Kate del Castillo to Granados Flores. In one of their conversations, the lawyer said that Guzmán might be interested in investing in her tequila brand.
In an interview with EL UNIVERSAL on January 19, Attorney General Arely Gómez said that the companies and finances of the Mexican actress are under investigation.
