Julio César Chávez rejects accusations of being involved with drug cartels

After media reports said that Julio César Chávez became the substitute of Rolando Andrade, father of Yolanda Andrade, to launder money from criminal groups in Mexico, the Mexican boxer posted a letter rejecting these accusations on his social networks.

According to the reports, Chávez has been friends with Andrade and Kate del Castillo for 20 years and he could have links with drug lords such as “El Mayo” Zambada, Héctor “El Güero” Palma, Juan José Esparragoza “El Azul”, Amado Carrillo and Francisco Arellano Félix.

The boxer himself has said that he is friends with the latter. In 2012, Chávez said: "I can not refuse greeting anyone, even if that person is a drug dealer."

In the letter posted on Twitter, Chávez said that these accusations violate his fundamental rights and cause "serious damage" to his person, family, public reputation and work relations. He added that the accusations are "false" and baseless.

Kate del Castillo has been summoned to testify about her dealings with the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.
