Del Castillo, who has dual nationality (Mexican and American) appears as chairwoman of the production company, that owns the rights to the exclusive interview that American actor Sean Penn made to Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán in October 2015 in Sinaloa. The interview was released last Saturday on the website of Rolling Stone magazine.
At the beginning of the video the drug dealer, then a fugitive, said: "I want to make clear that the content of this interview is exclusive to Miss Kate del Castillo and Mr. Sean Penn."
Del Castillo also chairs Royalty Makeup, a company registered on August 14, 2015 by Victor A. Westin on 9521 Orion Avenue Borth Hills, California.
The actress was also listed as board member of Amistad Productions LLC, based in Burbank, California, but currently she does not hold any position in the company.
According to the U.S. legislation Del Castillo's companies could face sanctions because as a U.S. citizen, she may have violated the restrictions of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) that prohibits Americans from conducting financial or commercial transactions with people included in its Kingpin Act, such as Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.
