The Mayor of Guaymas, Lorenzo de Cima Dworak, announced the suspension of school on all levels due to the risk presented by the floods that afflicted the city last weekend.
The schools are being cleaned after the intense rains of last Saturday, an effect of the remnants of hurricane Marty with precipitations of over four inches in just an hour, causing severe flooding and leaving more than 9,000 people affected.
The head of the state's Health Department, Gilberto Ungson Beltrán, reported a high health hazard presented by dengue, chikungunya, cholera and diarrheal diseases.
"This is a sanitary contingency and we must understand the magnitude of what can happen if we do not take the proper precautions," expressed the mayor of Guaymas during a meeting of the City Health Committee.
The participants in the meeting signed a document to be sent to the Ministry of the Interior to request access to the Natural Disaster Fund and the resources it represents.
