Security reinforced in Michoacán

Several convoys of the Military Police arrived this afternoon in the municipalities of Huetamo, Zitácuaro and Los Reyes, and will take control of the security in those regions along the state Department of Public Security, according to the inter-agency Michoacán Coordination Group (GCM).

There are some 500 officers assigned in a first stage to work with the state authorities, who have selected their best in order to aid them in the fight against crime.

The military presence comes after the commitments of Governor Silvano Aureole Conejo to work with the federal authorities in the fight against organized crime and lower the crime rate in the state.

According to Aureoles Conejo, the federal forces will remain the municipalities adjacent to the states of Jalisco, Guerrero, Colima, Guanajuato and Mexico until the State Police of Michoacán, a new corporation, is fully formed.
