Mexico is deporting more Central American immigrants than the United States.
From January to September this year the country deported a total of 118,001 Guatemalans, Salvadorans and Hondurans, compared to 80,736 in the same period of 2014.
In the first nine months of this year, the U.S. government deported 55,744 Central American citizens.
In 2014, Mexico deported 114,009 Central American citizens, while the U.S. deported 116,460.
The data were obtained from a report given to EL UNIVERSAL by Guatemala's General Migration Direction.
"Mexico is preventing migrants from arriving at the border. It now has more security and surveillance, so migrants are increasingly less likely to cross into the United States,” Sister Valdete Wilemann Brazilian, executive director of Honduras' Centro de Atención al Migrante Retornado, said.
