Mexico's Attorney General's Office says federal police have rescued a Texan who was kidnapped and taken across the border to Mexico for ransom.
In a statement Thursday, Mexico's top prosecutor says the victim was kidnapped in Sullivan City, Texas, on Aug. 27. The victim was taken across the Rio Grande in a boat and held in a house in Reynosa, Mexico, across the border from McAllen, Texas.
Authorities aren't saying when Mexican federal police rescued the victim without injury. The victim's identity has not been released.
The statement says the alleged kidnapper, whose name also was withheld, belongs to a criminal network operating in Tamaulipas state and is being held in a jail in Durango state awaiting trial. The Gulf cartel controls much of the border state of Tamaulipas.
