Christian Giménez scored twice and Cruz Azul broke a five-game streak with no wins defeating general leader Pumas UNAM by a score of 2-1, on date nine of the Apertura 2015 tournament.
The Azul stadium was filled with happy fans after "Chaco" Giménez scored on the five and 65, while Javier Cortés momentarily tied the game on the 42.
With this victory, Cruz Azul ended with ten points in the general ranking, while Pumas remains with 18 and saw the end of its five-game streak of victories, and could lose the leadership.
Cruz Azul was under great pressure to win the game, and things just seemed right to do it after Josecarlos Van Rankin fouled Joao Rojas.
"Chaco" was in charge of the penalty shot and he sent the ball down to the right of Alejandro Palacios to open the score.
From there on, Pumas exerted a lot of pressure until they managed to tie the game.
That pressure led to mistakes, ending in a second foul, this time by Gerardo Alcoba committed over Brazilian Fabio Santos on the 65, with "Chaco" again in charge of the penalty shot and sealing the victory for Cruz Azul.
