The Chairman of the Mexican Senate Miguel Barbosa Huerta, regretted that a month after the escape of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, the authorities have been unable to determine the level of responsibility of corrupted officials, putting the institutional credibility of the government at stake.
In a statement, Barbosa, from left-wing Revolutionary Democratic Party (PRD) urged the federal government to carry out decisive actions to determine responsibilities on the part of the authorities.
"The authorities commit a fundamental error in assuming that with just the simple passage of days and months, this subject will be forgotten. The credibility of the current government, which in this month reached its lowest point, is not at stake, but the institutional effectiveness of the Mexican State," he said.
He also recalled official statements made before the escape, expressing that "it would be inexcusable" to allow Guzmán Loera to escape, words that now "weigh like slabs on the credibility" of this administration.
