A group of fishermen found a dead whale, in an advanced state of decomposition, on a beach in the coastal region of Chiapas, local authorities and Civil Protection reported.
The discovery of the specimen was on Wednesday afternoon in the town of El Castaño, in the municipality of Mapastepec.
Fishermen and turtle camp staff noticed the body of the whale and reported it to the environmental authorities.
The report said that the whale is 11 meters long (36 feet) and weights about 12 tons.
Staff of the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) arrived to the place to take samples of animal.
Civil Protection stated that the decomposition of the whale poses no environmental risk because the area is unpopulated.
