The Staff from the Department of Health, Public Security and Public Safety of Chiapas has begun to spray 15 state prisons in order to combat the mosquitoes which are the main vectors of the chikungunya and dengue maladies. The action was implemented after the detection of two cases of chikungunya in the prison of Chiapa de Corzo and the detention center for minors in Villa Cruz, in the municipality of Berriozabal. Also, personnel of the Rescue and Medical Emergency Squad gave attention to the 61 minors detained in Berriozabal, with the collection of blood samples to confirm or rule out the presence of the virus. The actions include the elimination of the garbage and junk that could gather water from the rain and serve as a hotbed for the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes that transmit dengue and chikungunya in the prisons.
