Today, August 13, is the day the world has exhausted nature's budget for the entire year. Today is the Earth Overshoot Day.
What does it mean? It means that between January 1 and August 13, 2015, we have used as much from nature as the planet can renew in the entire year of 2015, such as fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, wood, cotton for clothing, and carbon dioxide absorption.
Each year the Earth Overshoot Day is calculated by the Global Footprint Network (GFN).
This Earth Overshoot Day comes six days earlier than 2014, with world’s population currently consuming the equivalent of 1.6 planets a year.
