Legislators and community leaders plan to protest against Donald Trump in front of the site of Trump's new hotel in D.C., set to open in 2016.
"In response to Mr. Trump's disparaging and dangerous comments to our community, concerned elected officials, community leaders and others will protest in front of the location of Mr. Trump's celebrated DC luxury hotel project at the Old U.S. Post Office building", Rep. Franklin Garcia for the District of Columbia said in a media advisory published on Facebook.
"The ultimate goal of this protest is to have Trump issue a public apology," Garcia added.
He will be joined by Senators Paul Strauss and Michael D. Brown (District of Columbia), Maryland State Delegates Ana Sol Gutiérrez and Joseline Peña-Melnyk, Arlington County Board J. Walter Tejada and D.C. Latino Caucus President Gabriela Mossi, among others.
The demonstration is scheduled for July 9, 2015 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington DC.
A story published by the Washington Post on July 6 revealed that a " Trump company may be relying on some undocumented workers to finish the US$200 million hotel, which will sit five blocks from the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue, according to several who work there."
Also, a petition on change.org is calling on Spanish chef José Andrés to back out of his deal to open a restaurant at the future Trump International Hotel.
The petition was started by Erick Sánchez, a Mexican American D.C. resident.
