Vicente Flores Hernández, head of supervisors of El Altiplano prison's Control Center, and two more guards are being prosecuted for conducts that favored the escape of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, head of the Sinaloa cartel.
Flores is accused of not alerting authorities immediately about El Chapo's disappearance and inconsistencies in his statement, while Juan Ignacio Cuarenta Orozco and Esteban Estrada Ramírez are accused of not answering the phone of the special treatment area, thus contributing to the druglords's escape.
The National Security Commissioner said the employees took a minute to report that Joaquín Guzmán was missing but none reported that he put on socks and shoes to enter the shower area.
They could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
The Third District Court of Guanajuato also ordered the release of four more employees of the control center because so far the Attorney General's Office (PGR) has not submitted sufficient evidence that they collaborated in the escape. Two of them worked for El Altiplano prison and two more for the Mexican Intelligence Agency known as Cisen.
