EL UNIVERSAL's columnist Ricardo Alemán said on July 16 that Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán may have corrupted the structure of the National Action Party (PAN) in Sinaloa to turn Lucero Sánchez López, mother of his youngest, son into a legislator.
Today former Mexican president Felipe Calderón asked Gustavo Madero, leader of the National Action Party (PAN) and Sinaloa congressman Jorge Villalobos, explain Sánchez's appointment.
"Whoever made this unacceptable designation should be held accountable," Calderón wrote on Twitter.
Villalobos said that Calderón's accusations are baseless because legislator Lucero Sánchez was appointed by a coalition formed by the Auténtico Sinaloense Party (PAS), the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD), the Labor Party (PT) and the PAN, and added that she was the only registered candidate to represent that district.
"We had no elements to presume any link, neither do we have the power to investigate such allegations," Villalobos said.
He added that "if the allegations are proved right, the PAN will expel her from the fraction, because she is not a member of the National Action Party."
