Mexicans have found a way to hit back at fugitive drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo. Literally.
This shop in the northeastern Mexican city of Reynosa, just across the Rio Grande from Texas, has been carefully crafting piñatas bearing Guzman's likeness, including a gun-framed sunglasses and his distinctive moustache, since the kingpin's brazen escape from a maximum-security prison via a tunnel.
Mexico has put up a reward of 60 million pesos (US$3.8 million) for information leading to his arrest.
Dalton Ramírez, owner of this piñata shop, told Reuters that the piñata came about following requests from customers.
"The motivation is that the issue is very prominent throughout social media and because people know we make piñatas that are a little controversial, they started telling me to make one for "El Chapo". So from day one we started making it (for 'El Chapo')," said Ramírez..
Ramírez said his piñata was all in good fun.
"We're joking about his escape, how he escaped, the versions (of his escape). We're joking because he (Guzmán) is also laughing at so we're doing this with humor. What else can we do," he added.
Although the country's most wanted man, Guzmán's daring jailbreak has glorified the notorious kingpin in parts of Mexico, with songs in his honor and new praise for allegedly standing up against Donald Trump.
No word whether drugs, money or real estate deeds are placed inside the piñatas.
