Mexico's federal government deployed armed forces in the states of Oaxaca, Michoacán, Guerrero and Chiapas upon request of their governors given the risk of "violence" that threatens the elections today.
"Given the possibility of violence with which some groups have tried to jeopardize the elections, particularly in the south-southeast of the country, members of the Federal Police, the Ministry of National Defense and the Navy were deployed and will be assisted by agents of the Attorney General's Office," Eduardo Sánchez, spokesman for the federal government, said.
He added that "Mexicans want and have the right to vote in peace", so the federal government will not hesitate to exercise its powers and perform the necessary actions within the framework of the law to guarantee the elections.
