Marisela Reyes Reyes, chairwoman the Electoral and Citizen Participation Institute, confirmed the annulment of the municipal election in Tixtla, Guerrero after activists stole 28 of the 54 voting booths that should have been installed.
Tixtla is the seat of the teachers training school of Ayotzinapa where the 43 students missing since September last year studied.
"It is very unfortunate; we have no certainty that the citizens of Tixtla actually decided not to vote," Reyes said.
She explained that the theft of 28 polls surpassed the 20% required by law for the elections to be valid.
The municipal election will be rescheduled, though the date has not been announced yet.
