The National Meteorological Service (SMN) reported that hurricane Blanca strengthened to category 4, after a quick jump from category two to three in their previous report.
It is currently at 300 miles southwest of Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco, and 360 miles from Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, where it is expected to make landfall on Monday.
For its part, the U.S. National Hurricane Center also issued an alert due to the strengthening of the phenomenon.
In its prior report, the SMN indicated that the phenomenon will cause very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, hail and high winds in Baja California Sur, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima and Michoacán; strong rains in Chihuahua and Durango, and of lesser intensity in Sonora, in addition to an increase in the waves in coastal areas.
Meanwhile, tropical wave number three will extend over the south of Oaxaca and will cause potentially heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, as well a hail and strong winds in Guerrero, Oaxaca and Chiapas, and rains of lesser intensity in Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo.
A low-pressure channel will be extended on the north and the center of the country, and is associated with the entry of moisture from the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.
