Rubén Oseguera González, captured yesterday by Mexican authorities, is the son of Rosalinda González Valencia and Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, leader of New Generation Jalisco Cartel (CJNG), one of the criminal organizations with greater presence in the country, according to reports from U.S. and Mexican authorities.
The 25-year-old was born in California, United States, and is considered the financial leader of the CJNG, that sells drugs in Europe, Asia, South America and the United States.
According to reports from the Attorney General's Office (PGR), Oseguera, better known as "El Menchito", is the second in command of the cartel and ordered killing members of rival groups disputing control of the states where the cartel operates.
When he was 20 he implemented "safety belts" in Jalisco and Colima to monitor the operations of the federal government as well as to prevent the arrival of other criminal organizations to the area.
He could also be involved in the murder of more than 70 victims exhumed from clandestine graves in November 2013 in the municipality of La Barca, Jalisco. However, so far he does not face charges of homicide.
For the time being he is only accused of kidnapping, organized crime and possession of firearms for the exclusive use of the army.
Oseguera was arrested by federal forces in 2014 and accused by the Attorney General's Office of possession of firearms for exclusive use of the army, use of illegal proceeds and crimes against health. However, authorities did not find enough evidence to sentence him, so he was released last January after burning cars in Guadalajara and organizing blockades to avoid being transferred to Mexico City.
After obtaining his freedom, he rejoined the cartel and underwent surgery to avoid being identified.
