Michael Fassbender's contract to play noble villain Magneto in the X-Men film universe ends with 'X-men: Apocalypse', as the actor confirmed to Variety.
But Fassbender also said that he is open to renewing his contract for more films.
“I will shoot a hundred of them. The contract is in three film deals, and this is the last of that. But I’ll be curious to see what happens next,” Magneto told Variety.
Fassbender might be interested in signing up for more films, but costars Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult are ready to leave the franchise.
Lawrence, who plays blue-skinned nudist Mystique, recently confirmed to MTV News she’s finished with the X-Men movies after 'Apocalypse.' However, Hoult admitted to E! Online he’d return for another film under certain conditions.
"This is the last one I'm signed up for," Hoult said. "The first one did so well and [Days of Future Past] got received so brilliantly … It's like, 'Wow, people really want to see the films' and the best thing is it's a great crew and cast to work with and he's a fun character. I have a good time playing him so I'd keep making them."
Apocalypse has cast the young versions of Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Storm (Alexandra Shipp) and Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), and maybe the franchise will recast Wolverine since Hugh Jackman has also announced he’s finished with the character after 17 years.
X-Men: Apocalypse starring Lawrence as Mystique, Hoult as Beast, Fassbender as Magento, James McAvoy as Professor X and Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse will be released on May 27, 2016.
